Treatment policies
In an effort to ensure that the care we provide is consistent and evidence-based, our site group has developed treatment policies for the major diseases that we treat. These outline our usual approach to diagnose and treat most patients. We do not intend that these will determine the treatment of every patient, but rather provide an approach that will be individualized for each patient.
The treatment policies aim to:
- ensure that the therapy offered within the site group is current, evidence-based and is consistent with Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) evidence-based guidelines;
- ensure that patients are treated consistently by members of the site group;
- serve as a reference for referring physicians; and
- serve as an educational tool for residents and fellows.
We have strived to ensure our policies are evidence-based and consistent with the Cancer Care Ontario clinical practice guidelines. In many cases, however, there is no single best treatment option. In such cases we have selected one option out of many to be our standard practice. Updates are listed at the top of each policy along with the date of last modification.
Our process:
Each of these policies had a lead physician responsible for reviewing the literature and the approach to care at our local peer institutions. The draft policies were then presented to and approved by the site group members. These policies will be reviewed on an annual basis or sooner as new evidence emerges. At the top of each policy, you can find the name of the lead author as well as the date of the last revision. We hope that you find these helpful.
Terms of use:
These guidelines are a statement of consensus of the Odette Cancer Centre Hematology site group regarding their views of currently accepted approaches to treatment. Any clinician seeking to apply or consult the guidelines is expected to use independent medical judgment in the context of individual clinical circumstances to determine any patient's care or treatment. Use of this site and any information on it is at your own risk.
