Patient Engagement in Research

Sunnybrook is committed to engaging patients and the public as partners in research. Our patient partners (patients, families, caregivers and members of the community) work with us to make research more relevant and useful by:

  • ensuring research studies address the health concerns of the communities we serve
  • improving the design of research studies for the best chance of producing meaningful results; and
  • ensuring that what we learn through research is communicated well and can be used to improve the health of our communities

Looking to participate in clinical trials? See our active cancer trials.

We have created this Patient Engagement in Research (PER) hub to provide information and support on what participating as partners with our research teams at Sunnybrook might entail or look like.

team members who contribute to the research process and activities during various stages* of a study which are the initial planning, conducting the experiment and presentation of the results. Taking part in research as a patient partner is different from being a research participant, or ‘subject’ in a research study because the involvement is extended beyond contributing to data collection.
