Diagnosis and treatment

Our cancer centre is the first in Toronto to provide a rapid process biopsy clinic. If you and our team of experts believe that you will need a prostate biopsy, our centre will be able to provide results of the biopsy within 72 hours of your biopsy, and be seen by our team of specialists in our multi-disciplinary clinic.

Treatment options

» Prostate cancer that is:
   • confined to the prostate gland
   • spread outside the prostate only (locally advanced)

Radical prostatectomy

Surgery is an excellent method for treating prostate cancer.

Radical radiotherapy (overview)

Radiation is an excellent method for treating prostate cancer.

• Brachytherapy

This radiotherapy approach involves the placement of radioactive seeds into the prostate. We offer low-dose rate, and high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy.

HDR brachytherapy with, or without external beam radiotherapy is an option for patients with low-and intermediate risk prostate cancer.

Active surveillance

Active surveillance — undergoing no treatment until it is necessary — may be an option for you. Learn more about active surveillance

» Prostate cancer that has spread (metastasized)

Hormone therapy

Hormone treatment is a highly effective method for patients with prostate cancer that has metastasized.

» Prostate cancer that has developed resistance to hormone therapy

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy or other options for patients with hormone refractory prostate cancer may be a good option.
