About the program

For over a decade, Sunnybrook partnered with a cable and television equipment service provider to offer cable services for patients and visitors. The contract that was in place to supply cable services for patients and visitors expired effective August, 2020.

At Sunnybrook, cable viewership rates have declined substantially over the past few years. As a result, and like our peer hospitals (e.g. University Health Network and Michael Garron Hospital), Sunnybrook is unable to justify the steep cost of new investment in equipment and cabling.

For these reasons, we have moved to a new corporate entertainment strategy known as BYOD (Bring-Your-Own-Device). As of August 2020, bedside cable packages will no longer be available for purchase.

The following areas within Sunnybrook will continue to offer bedside cable television through a direct contract with local cable providers:

  • Veterans Centre (Bayview campus)
  • Palliative care unit (Bayview campus)
  • Dialysis unit located at CNIB
  • Pine Villa
