Sunnybrook aims to provide a safe environment for all patients, residents, visitors, staff, physicians, students and volunteers. In the event of an actual or potential on-site hostage taking the Toronto Police will respond and mitigate the risk of harm to any hostage(s), other patients, staff and visitors.

General guidelines

1. Remain calm
2. Co-operate
3. Establish eye contact, but do not stare
4. Speak when spoken to
5. Observe and gather information about the hostage-taker(s) and scene

To report an emergency dial 5555 from any internal hospital phone, state your location and describe your emergency.
