» Central nervous system

Our central nervous system radiation team is an internationally recognized clinical and research leader. We are global pioneers in the use of stereotactic radiosurgery for brain tumours.

We are continually working to develop new and better ways to treat brain cancer.

We were the first in Canada to treat patients with the frameless Gamma Knife Icon.

We are a member of a global consortium working together to refine, test and use MR-Linac technology. The MR-Linac will allow us to target brain tumours even more precisely and see the treatment’s effect in real time.

» Gastrointestinal

We are leaders in stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (primary liver cancer) and liver metastases. SBRT uses carefully planned coordinates to target the tumour with high dose radiation.

We are also experts in intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and volumetric modulated arc radiotherapy (VMAT) for gastric, pancreas, rectal and anal cancer. IMRT uses a linear accelerator to deliver high dose radiation that is shaped to fit the tumour. In VMAT treatment, the linear accelerator moves around the patient, changing the radiation beam shape as it goes to more accurately target the tumour and spare surrounding tissue.

We established the first stereotactic ablative radiotherapy prostate program in Canada in 2006.We have one of the largest pancreas SBRT programs in Canada. It offers ablative doses to locally advanced pancreas cancer.
